Rayuela, meaning ‘hopscotch’ in Spanish, is the newest flamenco creation of versatile artist, Marco Flores. Flamenco is where his vital and artistic impulses are free of boundaries, where they make the most sense. In Rayuela, Flores encounters the essential truths of flamenco and experiences them in their entirety. He lives them with their kaleidoscopic emotion, from his intangible dance and a clean heart that belongs to an artist of the twenty first century.
With direction by Francisco López, Flores celebrates the first 20 years of his career in this piece that is a metaphor for his life where he is accompanied by renowned musicians, singer Alfredo Tejada and guitarist José Tomás Jiménez.
Marco Flores (National Flamenco Award winner) was born in 1981 in Arcos de la Frontera, Cádiz. At age 18 he joined Sara Baras and Rafaela Carrasco’s dance companies. He was also a guest artist in Mercedes Ruiz and Miguel Angel Berna’s dance companies. Marco Flores currently tours around Spain and abroad with his productions. He also choreographs for many artists and companies. He recently choreographed for Daniel Doña’s dance company, Fortea Conservatory in Madrid and also for Ballet Nacional de España in “Alento y Zaguán”.
Presented in partnership with FUNDarte as part of their Out (Loud) in the Tropics annual international performing arts series featuring daring and innovative artists that address issues of LGBTQ+ freedom of expression.
